TAX CREDITS ARE BACK FOR NEW GEOTHERMAL INSTALLS

Congress passed and the president has signed the Fiscal Year 18 stopgap funding bill and included in the package is a provision which will extend federal tax credits for residential and commercial installations of geothermal heat pumps.  

The tax credits are retroactive to January 1, 2017, and were extended through the end of 2021.

The credit for geothermal is as follows:

30% tax credit if system installed between Jan. 1, 2017 – Dec. 31, 2019

26% tax credit if system installed between Jan. 1, 2020 – Dec. 31, 2020

22% tax credit if system installed between Jan. 1, 2021 – Dec. 31, 2021
