Carolyn Hongslo Named as Southeastern Electric Cooperative Finalist in Regional Who Powers You Contest

Carolyn Hongslo powers the communities of Alcester and Hudson with her involvement in the summer recreation program, her local church, and by bringing a positive attitude to the school. This selfless dedication to her community is what earned her recognition as a finalist from Southeastern Electric Cooperative in the third annual regional Who Powers You contest.

“Carolyn’s presence at the school puts everyone in a happy mood,” wrote Tim Rhead, the Superintendent/Elementary Principal of Alcester-Hudson Elementary. “Carolyn is retiring at the end of the school year, and I have no idea what I’m going to do without her next year. She is not only the person who powers me, but she powers the whole school!”

Who Powers You is an exciting contest being hosted by the region’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to highlight local figures who are making a difference in their communities. “Carolyn has volunteered for over 35 years with our summer softball and baseball program and has helped keep participation costs low, allowing more children the opportunity to participate,” shared Todd Nelson, Manager of IT and Member Services at Southeastern Electric Cooperative.

Carolyn has worked at the Alcester-Hudson school for 10 years and is retiring in May. “I love building relationships with the students,” said Carolyn. “It is special to see students succeed and watch them grow and mature each year.” Receiving hugs and high-fives from children at the school is the highlight of her day. Although Carolyn enjoys working at the school, she is looking forward to spending more time with her family in retirement. Her grandchildren are involved in cross-country, volleyball and football, and she is excited to have the flexibility to attend sporting events next school year. She also plans to spend time working at the local thrift store.

“I always like to say, today is a good day to have a good day,” said Carolyn. Her sunny disposition and can-do attitude have made a positive impact in the Alcester and Hudson communities. Carolyn’s story was featured on Keloland Living on March 14. A recap of the segment is also available on the contest’s webpage at WhoPowersYouContest.com.
