Congratulations, Tami Berens!

CEO Chad Kinsley presents Tami Berens with a certificate for being selected as a finalist in the Who Powers You Contest.

Tami Berens Named as a Southeastern Electric Finalist in Regional Who Powers You Contest

Tami Berens is a very active member of the Parker community and positively impacts several organizations. Her generosity and dedication are what earned her recognition as a Southeastern Electric finalist in the fourth annual regional Who Powers You contest.

“Tami Berens is the heart of our community, balancing her full-time job and role as a mother of three while selflessly giving her time to others,” wrote Lillian Lauesen, a community member who nominated Berens for the contest. “She embodies the spirit of selflessness and community service. Her impact is felt by students, parents and teachers alike, and our community is better because of her unwavering commitment.”

The Who Powers You Contest is hosted by the region’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and highlights local figures who are making a difference in their communities.

Berens is on the REC sports board, is a 4-H Club Leader, coaches the FFA Poultry team and is the co-leader of a high school youth group at her church. Through her involvement in these organizations, she is able to spend more time with her children because they are also involved in these activities. “I love being involved,” exclaimed Berens. “Especially in a small town, it is important to help out so that these opportunities are available to the kids. I believe a well-rounded education is vital to all children.”

Berens discovered that her passion is helping high school students. “Highschoolers need to know that there are adults that care about them and want to see them succeed,” shared Berens. “For the students to see adults being involved in the community by volunteering and being active, it makes an impression on them and teaches them the importance of being involved.” Berens and the other adult volunteers support the students in their activities by attending their events – sports, choir, band and more. The youth group is making a positive impact in their town as the students participate in community service and other activities to improve their community.

When asked how she would encourage others to become involved in their communities, Beren’s said, “There are so many needs, and the volunteer population is getting smaller. Pick your passion – if we all step up and get involved with one organization, it will make a huge difference! There is rest in faith – you can make a difference.”

Beren’s story was featured on Keloland Living on April 1 and a recap of the segment is available on the contest’s webpage at www.WhoPowersYouContest.com.

Three final winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on the impact that they have on the community. Weekly finalists will be announced and featured on Keloland Living and the three contest winners will be announced on Keloland Living on May 22. The Who Powers You contest grand prize winner will receive a $3,000 prize. A second place winner will receive $1,500 and the contest’s third place winner will receive $500.
